Machine Shop 101

Machining neck cones for the frame jig. Start with this girthy bad boy.
Slap it in your bandsaw.
Make sure you read this note... It's important...

Snack while you cut... These are delicious. You would think that they're dry, but HAILS NO! Plus I dig the name.
Chuck it up in your lathe and face the shit out of it!
After facing, turn the outside to size.
Now use a tool like this, to make a hole like this vvv
Next throw a drill bit down the hole you just made with the center drill.
Holiest of holy's... Dirty hole... Minor thread diameter... 9/16 drill hole...

Next cram your 3/4 16 UNF tap into the new drill hole. Power tap style.
Realize the pitch is to fine to power tap, so finish it up with your tap handle.
Now you need to set your cross slide 45' to cut your 90' taper.

Turn it out till you have a sweet 90' included angle. Don't forget to reverse the spindle since your cutting on the backside of the work piece.
Part it off and put a bolt in it like this. You'll need it for the next step. Scroll down to see the action!
Once you get the bolt in. Transfer it to the indexing head you have on your mill.
Touch off on your workpiece and lower your Z down the amount needed to mill out a 1 3/4" hex. In this case  .264.
Make your cut, then index the head 60' and repeat. Always repeat...
Once your done with the indexing you are left with hex head glory!
Nuts! Do it all again till you have a pair. Make sure you deburr them till they are pleasant to the touch.
 Ultimate payoff? Robot pasta. Delicious!

Axel Support Assembley

Here's the axle assembly all ready for welding. If it truly was hip to be square this thing would be Evel Knievel.

Neck Adjuster

So! It's been so long since I've gotten to machine an assembly of parts. For the last (I don't know) 6 years I've been running nothing but production on just a few parts. So once I machine a part and it leaves my hands that the last I get to see of it. It really takes the satisfaction out of being a machinist. Machining these frame jigs have probably been way more entertaining to me then you blog readers, But I'm totally stoked on how it's turning out. Most of the parts for this neck adjuster are complete. I just need to turn out the last two parts that will support the neck tube. Hopefully those will be done today! Then I can send everything to Jared so he can fuse it all together with his fancy TIG welder. This frame jig should make some damn nice frames! I held every dimension way tighter than I probably needed to. But I enjoyed doing it that way. TIGHT... Gangsta style...

So tight Jared probably doesn't even have to weld it...

 Boosting over road cones.

 Jared shreading the wall.
 My boy Baylor getting gnar.
Board snappin son of a gun.
Zing! Broken tail bone, or broken wrist.
Spotted this bike at the Orem Milo sport.
He covered the seat with his old snowboard jacket.
 Grim Cycle love.
Biggest waist of concrete in utah county, the american fork bowl...
I don't care if you landed a triple backflip, it's still a scooter...

You could literally here this ramp sizzle today. It was hot as hell!
My favorite bowl ever. Located in Payson Utah.

Merry Go Skate Day!

Jake leg frame jig

You can see the warpage here in this pic. This thing is SPRUNG!
So we made a steel sandwich.
Then Kevin poked it with the bobcat.
Here you can see the 1" bar stock we used as the fulcrum.
F*@K choppers Bobcats RULE! Using this method we were able to take about 3/4" of bend out of it. But hoping that we could take more of the bend out we tried a different method. *sidenote* I would trust Kevin to perform open hart surgery on me with that bobcat... The dude's a freakin surgeon with that bad boy.
We tried givin it the business this way but it didn't work to well.
So Kevin busted out another one of his bad ass toys, his diesel powered welder... And welded up a support bracket to his shipping storage container... That he just so happened to have...
We threw a strap on it and gave it a tug with the bobcat. I didn't get any pictures of the bobcat pulling on the it because it was effing scary as hell! It was moving the whole cement pad and shit.
So we decided it was good enough and I'd try busting out the rosebud on it at the shop.
After laying down some flames, it sprang back worse than before... I thought fire made everything better! So I called Master Massic-istic to duty, and  he worked his magic on it. By the time he was done it looked like he had made some progress. So as it turns out fire DOES make it better, if you use it right. Whats that ancient Buddhist saying? It's not the size of the fire that matters, it's the motion of your dick? Anyways... Things are looking straighter now. It just took all day to move it about a half an inch.
